Using Facebook for Your Job Search

People use Facebook to connect with friends, family, and acquaintances; so why not use Facebook for your job search? Yes I am talking about Facebook where you share photos, recipes, and so much more. Can you really find a job on Facebook?

If you have preconceived ideas about Facebook, you need to remove them and read on. Facebook definitely is not used the same way you use LinkedIn for your job search, but Facebook can be used for meaningful networking and personal branding. If you are a job seeker, you could be missing the opportunity to find your next job if you are not utilizing Facebook for more than socializing.  Facebook has over 1.44 billion monthly active users, plus millions of business pages. Companies on their pages post their job openings and some even have a tab dedicated to their job openings.

Here is an example of a company page: https://www.facebook.com/SutherlandGlobal

You will notice on their page, they post job openings and their upcoming career events. In addition, they have a career tab that you can search the job openings right on their page. This is just an example of one company.

Looking at a company’s page can be very useful to find the exact position you are looking for because not all job openings will be posted on a job board.

To find a company’s page, do a search at the top of the page with the company’s name. Once on the page, look for job postings. In addition, look for a career or opportunities tab. This is where you will be able to search through all of the company’s job openings.

Another type of business page that you can use to find jobs are employment agencies, recruiter or job services pages. These pages are updated with new job listings. One example is https://www.facebook.com/GetMyMomAJob

You will see the posts on the page, which is updated with job listings. So you won’t miss a new job listing, like the page and you will see all of the new job openings in your feed. This is helpful so you don’t have to worry about missing a job opening if you don’t visit the page every day.

Facebook can help you find a job a lot quicker than sifting through job after job on a job board. Not to mention, on Facebook you can network with people (recruiters).
