Want to Get a Job? Think Like a Marketing Company!

Whether you want to admit it or not, marketing and advertising works! In fact the old saying: "Advertising is not a science, it is an art, the art of persuasion." There has never been a more true statement, especially in getting a job. Marketing and Advertising Companies everyday are persuading us to buy their product or service. It works, think about it:

v  Ever See the Commercial for JG Wentworth? They sing throughout, but the catch line is "Call JG Wentworth 877-Cash-Now" in an opera style.

v  Allstate: Your in good hands with Allstate!

v  State Farm: Sing along, Like a good neighbor State Farm is there!

v  Motel 6: We'll keep the light on for you!

v  Amazon: There's a smile on every box!

There are 1000's of examples. The images of food, stain fighters for detergent, odor eaters, paper towels that pick up more messes, safety in cars, vacuums, wet/dry mops, ASPCA for abandoned animals, and seductive commercials. It is the art of persuasion. Persuading you to make a buy decision. Well as a job seeker that is precisely what you are trying to do, you are persuading the employer to make a "buy" decision on you. So how does marketing and persuasion work?

Marketing companies use a PROVEN formula called AIDA:

A - Get Attention

I - Capture Interest

D - Create Desire

A - Call to Action

AIDA, is a simple formula. Think about the job process for a moment. You use a Video Cover Letter to get attention. Your resume is written in a sales and accomplishment fashion captures their interest in keywords. Your History of Success or Experience creates desire. The call to action is simple: you are asking for the next step in the process.

However, most people's resumes lack all of the above. Using the wrong "words", keeping it sterile and form like. Job seekers hope, more often than not, that the employer will be able to see what they need to see, without showing them. Without CREATING: Attention, Interest, Desire, and Call to Action. That is the job of the job seeker. You are persuading the employer to "buy" you. To be bought you have to show them as if your Cover Letter and Resume are a walking commercial. Those that get the jobs do just that!

Buyers have a preference in products! We choose McDonalds over Burger king, Target over Walmart, GM over Ford for a reason, we were sold on it! Job Seekers are like products. Those that put on the best presentation win, win every time. In fact there are many of you that have said "WOW, how did that person get that job? I am way more qualified." Simple, they put on a better marketing presentation, persuaded and sold the employer on them. It truly is that simple. If you use the AIDA method in your resume and in your interview, you will have success as well! There is a system to getting hired, utilize the system and available professionals and get the job you want and the job you need today!
